Bev's Biography

 

Councillor Bev Dubois was born and raised in Saskatoon.  She attended Prince Philip School and graduated from Walter Murray Collegiate and the University  of  Saskatchewan. Bev has an extensive business background with Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants, Meewasin Foundation, Regional Economic Development Authority as well as Cogema Resources.

Councillor Dubois was elected as Ward 10 City Councillor in 2003 and re-elected in 2006.  She has served on the following committees: Planning and Operations, Administration and Finance, Audit, Library Board, City Centennial Committee, Municipal Planning Commission, Tourism Saskatoon, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA), Sutherland Business Improvement District and The City of Saskatoon Waste Minimization Task Force and Board of Trustees Defined Contribution Plan.  She is a Director of  the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

Councillor Dubois remains committed to the community with organizations outside of City Council responsibilities.  Bev is Chairperson of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, on the United Way Board of Directors, Chair of Saskatoon Harvest Fest, and sits on the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Board of Directors.

Bev has a public relations and marketing company and enjoys golfing, running the Meewasin Trail, working out, modelling, cooking and reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Councillor Dubois has worked hard over the years to create a positive, vibrant community for the benefit of all residents of Saskatoon.   She always looks forward to working with the citizens of Saskatoon to make our beautiful City of Saskatoon a great place to live, work and raise a family.  She welcomes your comments, questions and concerns.

BEV DUBOIS was born and raised in Saskatoon. She attended Walter Murray Collegiate and the University of Saskatchewan. Her grandparents lived in Sutherland for many years and her mother resides there today. Bev has lived in Erindale for the past 17 years along with her husband and two children.

Bev’s career in the Saskatoon business community includes having been Executive Director of the Meewasin Foundation, Business and Marketing Manager for Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants, and at the time of her election to City Council in 2003, Manager of Investor Relations for the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority.

BEV DUBOIS personifies Saskatoon’s reputation as The City of Volunteers by the following examples:

-Bev was a founding member of the Saskatoon Women’s Network whose objectives are, among other things, to provide a meeting place for women, consult other women about careers and the common challenges women face at home and on the job, exchange information and professional advice, and experience companionship and social exchange. Bev served on the SWN executive for seven years, is a Past-President, and chaired the annual SWN Vacation Dinner for four years.

-Bev was on the Board of Directors of Big Sisters of Saskatoon for ten years, serving as President for five. She brought many new volunteers into the organization while developing creative fundraising events such as the Slimathon and Vinefest. She has also chaired the Bowl for Millions committee on behalf of Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

-While serving on the Board of Directors of the Saskatoon YWCA, Bev chaired the annual Women of Distinction Awards Dinner for three years. She also represented Saskatchewan on the YWCA’s national “Power to Change” campaign.

-Bev worked with the Saskatoon Police Service for six years as a member of the Board of Directors of Saskatoon Crimestoppers, helping citizens easily and anonymously assist police in solving crimes, including the Student Crimestoppers program in our high schools.

-Bev was President of the Saskatoon chapter of “Imagine” for two years. Imagine was a national program promoting public and corporate giving, volunteering, and support for the community.

-Bev is the Past-Chair of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee, Regional Psychiatric Centre and Saskatchewan Parole.

-Believing that it is important to have a thriving, vibrant arts community in Saskatoon, Bev served as a Director of Persephone Theatre for three years.

-Bev has also served as a Director of the Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation, Saskatoon Interval House, and the Saskatoon Rotary Club, and was one of the first female Rotarians when this international service club opened its membership to women.

-Bev is the first woman to become Chair of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, working to address challenging social issues such as homelessness and poverty.

-Bev has served on a number of committees for organizations such as Waneskewin Heritage Park, the Saskatoon Public Library, Royal University Hospital Foundation, 1995 Grey Cup, 2000 Brier, and Saskatoon’s United Way. She was the 2006 United Way Special Events Chairperson.

-Bev was the first president of the Father Robinson School Parent’s Association and Co-Chaired the St. Joseph High School Parent’s Association. She was the “room mom” for most of her daughter’s years at both of these schools and was an elementary school Leader for the “Just Say No to Drugs and Alcohol” girls group.. She also served on the Erindale Community Association in the early 1990’s and was Vice-President for a year.

-Bev is an active member of the Sutherland Business Association and serves as Co-Chair of the annual Saskatoon Harvest Fest.

In recognition of her dedication to community service, Bev Dubois has been awarded both the Governor-General’s Canada 125 medal, and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. She has been nominated for both the Women of Distinction and Silver Spoon Dinner Awards.

Since October 2003, when she was elected to Saskatoon City Council representing Ward 10, Bev has worked full-time on behalf of the residents of the communities of Sutherland, Forest Grove, Silver Springs, Erindale, Arbour Creek, Willow Grove, and University Heights.
